PVSM, AVSM, Ph.D, Former Vice Chief Of Army Staff

Lt. Gen. Arvinder Singh Lamba was commissioned into the Army in June 1971, and retired after more than four decades of service to the Nation.

As Vice Chief of the Army Staff, the officer was responsible for Service level monitoring of  External and Internal security environment,  synergizing Military Operations, Military Intelligence, Military Logistics, and Perspective Planning towards Force Transformation and Strategic Postulations towards overall readiness of the Indian Army.

A veteran of the 1971 war in Bangladesh, and later in Western sector, he has participated in every major operation ever since, and served in important command and staff appointments  dealing with almost all of Insurgency affected states of North East India,   as also in operations in Sri Lanka. He has commanded the Elite Strike Corps, A Frontline Division, and a Mountain Brigade deployed in Counterinsurgency operations and later in Operation Parakram. He has held several important Staff appointments at both Army Headquarters and Active Formations.

The General officer attended the most prestigious course of International Stature, The Royal College Of Defence Studies at The UK for one year dealing with real time issues related to Strategic Leadership, Military Diplomacy and Defence cooperation.

The General officer has done his Ph.D in Management Studies, M.Phil. and MSc in Defence and Management Studies, MA in International Affairs from Kings College London,  and MBA in International Marketing.

The General Officer is currently engaged with Indian and International Forums/institutions  for Strategic and Security Initiatives, Defence Analysis, participation as part  of International delegations/ Track II dialogues with the US, China and  Japan , with Pakistan on Military to Military CBMs , Nuclear CBMs, cooperation on Initiatives to Combat International Terrorism  as part of  GIBSA (Germany, India, Brazil, South Africa ), and in reviews  of India-East Asia Relations , the Indo Pacific Region,  and   India Korea  Cooperation.
