Dr. D. R. Saini, National Awardee (awarded by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee on 5th September, 2012) is the Principal of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, New Delhi, one of the most reputed educational institutions. During his 36 years of dedicated service in the field of Education, Sports and Culture, he has held the post of Vice Principal of this institution, and of the Principal (since August, 2009). Dr. Saini is M.A., Ph.D, M.Ed. and LL.B. He has been instrumental in setting up the Sports Complex, and the Girls’ and Boys’ Hostels in DPS R.K. Puram.

Dr. Saini’s professional ground experience as an educationist and sportsperson has been reinforced through international exposure and regular and formalized training in UK, USA, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Holland, South Korea, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Hong Kong, China and other countries. This has helped him in practical orientation and inculcated a sound knowledge of the latest technology in education, as well as administrative and managerial techniques; leading to a high level of professional competence, along with conceptual, administrative and leadership skills.

He is member of 36 Advisory Boards of various organizations working in areas of socio-economic development.. He is also a member of General Council of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Governing Body of the CBSE to represent the IPSC, CBSE Sports & Games Core Committee; Ethics Committee of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS); Working Group on Sports and Physical Education under the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in the context of the formulation of the Twelfth Five Year Plans (2012-17), Planning Commission, Government of India; Olympic Values Education Programme, International Olympic Committee, Switzerland; Sports Scientific Board Olympic Council of Asia, Kuwait. He is also the President of Delhi Basketball Association and the Secretary General of the Bowling Federation of India; Vice President, Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society (JNHTS) and Chairman Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Committee (JNHTC).

Dr. Saini is often invited as an expert by Doordarshan and other national channels on panel discussions pertaining to sports and education. He has presented papers in the United Nations, Geneva on Human Rights, Education and Health.

He is the recipient of 22 prestigious awards for his dedicated service towards Education and Sports.
