Air Marshal Sumit Mukerji Former Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief

Former Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief;

Schooled in Sherwood College, Nainital, Air Mshl Mukerji was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force, after completing his training at the NDA and the Air Force flying colleges. A graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, he has had the distinction of Commanding three units, the first a MiG-29 Squadron, second the MiG-25 Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron and lastly the Tactics and Combat Development Establishment (TACDE), which is the “Top Gun” school of the IAF. He has more than 3500 hrs of fighter flying to his credit.

He was appointed to a diplomatic assignment, as the Air Attache in the Embassy of India, Washington DC, USA immediately post 9/11 and was instrumental in coordinating the first ever international foray of IAF fighters for an exercise in Alaska in 2003.

In his closing years he has been the Air Officer in Charge Personnel at Air HQ and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Air Command at Trivandrum. The Air Officer retired in June 2011.

He has been the recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal, Shaurya Chakra (for gallantry) and Vishist Seva Medal.
