Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing, Government of India; Member of Parliament from Bathinda
Born in Delhi in 1966, Harsimrat Kaur Badal started her political career with the 2009 general election, and was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Bathinda constituency. In her maiden speech, on December 3, 2009, she expressed concern about the victims and survivors of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
She has been involved in the Nanhi Chhaan Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to address issues relating to the low sex ratio, environmental degradation, and secularism in the country.
She is a matriculate and holds a diploma in textile design. She and her husband Sukhbir Singh Badal have two daughters and a son. She is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal.
