Salman Khurshid is a politician whose career has spanned more than three decades. He has served as the Union Cabinet Minister of External Affairs, Union Deputy Minister of Commerce, and the Union Minister of State for External Affairs. In his long career, he has held many important posts within Congress as well as in the Central Government.
Mr. Khurshid comes from a distinguished political lineage. He is the son of Khurshid Alam Khan - a noted politician, and grandson of Dr. Zakir Hussain, the third President of India. As a politician, he has been instrumental in the establishment of several non-educational institutions and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). His work has championed the causes of women, healthcare, and digital literacy. He has also been an enthusiastic promoter of Urdu as a prominent Indian language.
Mr. Khurshid is also an accomplished lawyer and a member of the Bar at the Supreme Court of India. Prior to joining politics, he was a lecturer in Law at Trinity College, Oxford.
Having completed his graduation from the University of Delhi, Mr. Khurshid completing went to England for higher studies. He pursued a course in law from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University.
Mr. Khurshid is also a celebrated author and lawyer. His book, Beyond Terrorism: New Hope for Kashmir, received rave reviews. He has also written an Urdu play, Sons of Babur, which as been translated into several languages.
